Intent signals

Intent signals are actions that suggest a person or company may be in the market for what you sell, such as visiting your pricing page, engaging with a competitor's post, hiring for a relevant role, or raising money.

Why it matters

Cold outreach works much better when it's not cold. A message to someone who liked a competitor's post yesterday, or whose company just posted a job for its first marketer, has a reason to exist.

Common signals:

  • Website visits to pricing or comparison pages.
  • Social engagement with a competitor's or influencer's posts.
  • Keyword mentions on Reddit or X, like "looking for an alternative to…".
  • Hiring for a role your product helps with.
  • Funding announcements, which often come before new spending.

A signal is a reason to reach out, not proof of intent. Use it to choose who to contact and what to say first.

How Cosmo handles it

Cosmo watches the signals that fit your business, turns them into short lead lists, and writes a first line for each person that mentions the reason. The emails go into a sequence from your own inbox, and each batch is an approval card. On Reddit and LinkedIn DMs he drafts and you send.

FAQ

Intent signals, answered

Are intent signals legal to use?

Rules depend on your country and the data source. Use reputable sources, follow email laws like CAN-SPAM and GDPR where they apply, and always include an easy way to opt out.

What's the strongest signal?

Usually first-party ones: someone on your pricing page, or replying to your content. Third-party signals are useful for finding new people.
